Resources and References--Focused Intention

Resources for focused intention and peacemaking

Executive Summary

The following references and resources are articles and papers that taken together suggest that the focused intention of the mediator or peacemaker might have a positive effect on the parties in the conflict. None of the papers address mediation and peacemaking directly. However, the basic principles are clearly applicable to the art of peacemaking. When possible, the reference goes directly to a pdf of the article or to a website where the article can be located.

Table of references and resources relating to consciousness and focused intention in peacemaking and mediation

Table of Papers and Presentations on the Maharishi Effect - Maharishi University of Management. This site lists and summarizes a number of studies examining the effect of meditation on populations.
Yu.V.Nachalov, A.N.Sokolov.Experimental investigation of new long-range actions. This paper makes extraordinary claims about non-linear, non-local forces the researchers call torsion fields. Essentially, torsion fields exist in the Zero Point Field measured at 0 degrees Kelvin. If the research is valid, the implications for peacemaking are significant.
IONS Distant Healing Bibliography This pdf file is a good bibliography of published research on distant healing compiled by the Institute of Noetic Sciences.
Marilyn Schlitz,. PhD,. and William Braud,. PhD., Distant healing and intentionality: Assessing the evidence This paper is a meta-analysis of scholarly research on distant healing effects.
Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., Mike Atkinson, Dana Tomasino, B.A., The electricity of touch: detection and measurement of cardiac energy exchange between people This paper from the Heart Math Institute demonstrates another strand of research on the nature of non-local influences between human beings.
Rollin McCraty, Ph.D, The Energetic heart: bioelectromagnetic interactions with and between people Another scholarly research paper by Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., chief research scientist at the Heart Math Institute. This article must be purchased at the site.
Christine Caldwell Bair, The heart field effect: Synchronization of healersubject heart rates in energy therapy A 2006 unpublished doctoral dissertation reporting results of study of heart rate synchronization between a healer and subject. Substitute the word "peacemaker" or "mediator" for "healer" and begin to understand the profound implications of focused intention in peacemaking and mediation. This is a powerful study well worth reading.
Suzanne Sites Gibson, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., The effect of music and focused meditation on the human energy fields as measured by the gas discharge visualization (GDV) technique and profile of mood states A 2002 unpublished doctoral disseration demonsrating how the human energy field is affected positively by music and focused meditation.
Dean Radin, For whom the bell tolls. An article by IONS senior researcher Dean Radin reviewing the Global Consciousness Project. Non-scientific and readable.
M. Sue Benford, R.N., M.A., "Spin Doctors": A New Paradigm Theorizing the Mechanism of Bioenergy Healing. This article examines torsion field theory as an explanation for non-local, distant healing effects of healers caused by focused intention. A technical discussion of the Russian research, but useful.
Dean Radin, Moving mind, moving matter Radin's discussion of the research showing how intention affects physical reality.
Dean Radin, et al., Effects of healing intentions on cultured cells and truly random effects An important report on research showing the effects of intentionality on animate and inanimate objects. The implication for peacemaking is that thought intention may literally create a positive energy in the room that physcially affects the parties.
Dana Tomasino, New technology provides evidence of water's capacity to store and amplify weak electromagnetic and subtle energy fields This study shows how coherent heart rates can imprint information upon and affect the physical structure of water.
Lynne McTaggart, The Field This book describes the research around the Zero Point Field drawing one to conclude how focused intention has the ability to change physical reality. Go to the Peacemaker's Library for a link to Amazon.
Lynne McTaggart, The Intention Experiment The follow-up book to The Field discusses the science around focused intention. Go to the Peacemaker's Library for a link to Amazon.
